New Delhi: Licypriya Kangujam, the 11-year-old, award-winning environment and climate change activist from India has accused the Indian media of sidelining her at the COP27 while several international media houses interviewed her at the event.

She has further accused the Indian media of telling her that they will interview her if she would talk about the initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a tweet on Saturday, the young activist who has won over 10 noted awards for her activism said, “Many International Media took me interviews at #COP27 everyday but not a single Indian news media took me interview.”(sic)

“They are busy in Indian Pavilion and following Indian politicians. They told me if you want to talk about PM Modi initiatives then we can take your interview.” She further added.

Licypriya is one of the youngest climate activists globally and has addressed world leaders at the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2019 (COP25) in Madrid, Spain asking them to take immediate climate action. Licypriya has been campaigning for climate action in India since 2018, to pass new laws to curb India's high pollution levels, and to make climate-change literacy mandatory in schools. She is also often touted as “India’s Greta Thunberg”.

Dhanbad (Jharkhand) (PTI): At least four workers died after being buried under coal slurry in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district on Saturday, a police official said.

The incident took place at Moonidih coal washery in the command area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).

"Bodies of all four workers were dug out of debris during a rescue operation," Putki police station in-charge Waqar Hussain told PTI.

The incident took place when coal slurry was being loaded into trucks by workers, during which a large chunk of slurry fell and trapped several workers underneath, officials said.

The deceased have been identified as Manik Bauri, Dinesh Bauri, Deepak Bauri, and Hemlal Gope.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased and local villagers placed the bodies in front of the washery gate and began a protest.

They demanded compensation, jobs for dependents and action against those responsible for the incident.

Police and administration officials are trying to pacify the protesters, an official said.
