Melbourne, Dec 26: Australia's men's Test Player of the Year award has been renamed to honour legendary spinner Shane Warne, the country's cricket board announced on Monday.
The Shane Warne Men's Test Player of the Year award will be presented annually at the Australian Cricket Awards.
Cricket Australia (CA) chief executive Nick Hockley and Australian Cricketers' Association CEO Todd Greenber, announced the renaming of the award during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa as a tribute to Warne. He died of a suspected heart attack in Thailand earlier this year.
"As one of Australia's all-time greats, it is fitting we acknowledge Shane's extraordinary contribution to Test cricket by naming this award in his honour in perpetuity," Hockley was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.
"Shane was a proud advocate of Test cricket and you only have to look around at all the fans who came out to the MCG in their floppy hats and zinc on Boxing Day to realise what a profound impact he had on the game." Warne himself won the award once in 2006 for his record 40 wickets in 2005.
This Australian Cricket Awards will be announced on January 30.
"I'm proud that the ACA, along with Cricket Australia, is able to recognise the incredible impact Shane had on Test cricket with an award named in his honour," Greenberg said.
"While he was a once in a generation player, he was very much a man who understood the important contribution all players made to Australian cricket.
"He played an important role in the formative years of the ACA and never knocked back an opportunity to promote and grow the game … and once they came, nobody knew how to put on a show quite like Warnie – particularly here at the MCG," he added.

Saharanpur, Apr 6 (PTI): An electricity department contract worker has been dismissed from service in this Uttar Pradesh district for allegedly waving a Palestine flag on Eid, officials said on Sunday.
The termination notice was issued after photographs of him waving the Palestine flag became circulated on social media.
Saqib Khan, who worked in the Kailashpur power house, waved the flag after Eid 'namaaz' on March 31, the officials said.
Electricity department executive engineer Sanjeev Kumar said the department deemed his action "anti-national" and promptly took steps.
"Saqib Khan, a contract worker in the Kailashpur power house, waved a flag of Palestine after offering 'namaaz' on Eid and posted of it a picture on social media," Kumar said.
"When the matter came to the department's notice, it was considered an anti-national activity and action was taken immediately. A letter was written to the contract company concerned and it was directed to remove Khan from service," he added.
The department has instructed the contract company to immediately terminate Khan's employment and confirm the action.
The incident follows action against eight individuals in the district who were also seen in a video waving Palestine flags and raising slogans.
The authorities are identifying other individuals involved based on widely-circulated footage and plan to initiate legal proceedings against them.
Superintendent of Police (City) Vyom Bindal had said on March 31, "A video has come to our notice through social media in which some youngsters are seen waving the flag of another country. The matter is being investigated, following which further action will be taken."
Vyom had said that, after offering 'namaaz' at the Ambala Road eidgah, some youngsters raised slogans while waving flags of another country that were promptly removed by police.
