K.L. Rahul was batting on 46 while Ajinkya Rahane was on 10 after James Anderson scalped Shikhar Dhawan (1) and Cheteshwar Pujara (0). India captain Virat Kohli was sent back for a golden duck by Stuart Broad.
Earlier, Cook, playing his final match, cracked 147 while Root made 125 to help England declare on 423/8. For the tourists, Ravindra Jadeja and Hanuma Vihari grabbed three wickets apiece.

Bengaluru: In a move aimed at protecting children’s mental health, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced during the state budget session that the use of social media by children below 16 years of age will be banned.
The Chief Minister cited concerns over the growing use of mobile phones among minors and its negative impact on their mental health.
Siddaramaiah also announced that qualified mental health counsellors will be appointed in 204 Block Resource Centres (BRCs) across the state to help reduce stress among students and improve their overall well-being.
