New Delhi (PTI): Senior India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj on Saturday made a comeback to the ODI side for the three-match home series against New Zealand while Shreyas Iyer was included subject to fitness clearance.

Siraj, who was overlooked for the home series against South Africa, is back in the ODI setup.

Iyer, who was hospitalised during the ODI series in Australia in November for spleen laceration, will need to prove his match fitness in the Vijay Hazare Trophy this month to get fitness clearance from the Centre of Excellence (COE).

Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya was not cleared by the COE to bowl 10 overs in a match and therefore the selectors did not include him in the team for the series beginning in Vadodara on January 11.

The other two matches will be played in Rajkot and Indore on January 14 and 18 respectively.

Ruturaj Gaikwad could not get the selectors' nod after scoring a fine hundred during the South Africa series.

India ODI squad for NZ series: Shubman Gill (C), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (WK), Shreyas Iyer (VC; subject to fitness clearance), Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohd Siraj, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Rishabh Pant (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Yellapur: In an incident reported from Kalamma Nagar here, a 30-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself on Saturday, after having murdered an assistant cook.

The murder accused is identified as Rafiq Imamsaab Yallura while the victim was Ranjitha Mallappa Banasode. Yallura’s body was reportedly found on Sunday morning in a hanging state in the Khajalwada Forest area of Yellapur town.

Yellapur Police visited the spot immediately on being informed of the information.

Ranjitha, a divorcee, and Yallura are learned to have known each other for several years now and Yallura is also said to have been urging Ranjitha to marry him. Ranjitha, however, had not only been rejecting his repeated proposals but also stopped communicating with Yallura. Angered by this, Yallura met Ranjitha when she was returning from work on Saturday. Following an intense argument between the duo, Yallura allegedly slit Ranjitha’s throat with a weapon and escaped from the spot.

Yellapur Police, who searched for the suspect, found his dead body in the forest area.

Members of the Sangh Parivar called for a Yellapur Bandh on Sunday protesting against the murder of Ranjitha. As the members readied themselves at the Basaveshwara Circle in the city, however, they received the news of the police finding Yallura’s body in the forest.
