Mumbai: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) players were seen wearing black armbands during their IPL 2026 match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, drawing attention from viewers during the high-profile clash.
The black armbands were worn as a mark of respect for CSK pacer Mukesh Choudhary’s mother, Prem Devi, who passed away on April 21 after a prolonged illness.
The franchise chose to honour her memory during the match against Mumbai Indians, one of the biggest rivalries in Indian Premier League history.
Mukesh Choudhary had rushed to his hometown in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, after CSK’s previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad to perform the last rites of his mother.
Sources said Prem Devi had been undergoing treatment at Tata Hospital in Mumbai. It is also learnt that former CSK captain MS Dhoni remained in touch with the pacer during the difficult period and had visited his mother while she was under treatment.
Despite the personal tragedy, Mukesh Choudhary rejoined the CSK squad for the match against Mumbai Indians.
The black armbands were seen as a gesture of solidarity from the entire CSK team, paying tribute to their teammate’s late mother during the match at Wankhede.
