Indian student shot in Canada while waiting at bus stop, investigation underway
New York: In a tragic incident, a 21-year-old Indian student, Harsimrat Randhawa, was shot dead in Hamilton, Ontario, while waiting at a bus stop on her way to work. A student at Mohawk College, Randhawa, was struck by a stray bullet fired from a passing vehicle on the evening of April 10. Authorities have confirmed that she was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire during a targeted shooting.
In their initial statement, the Hamilton Police reported receiving calls around 7:30 p.m. local time regarding gunfire near the intersection of Upper James and South Bend Road. The officers found Randhawa with a gunshot wound to the chest upon reaching the scene. She was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.
Investigators, based on video evidence collected so far, believe a passenger in a black vehicle opened fire at occupants of a white sedan. Both vehicles reportedly fled the area shortly after the shots were fired. The gunfire also pierced the rear window of a nearby home, where residents were watching television, no one inside the house was harmed.
The Consulate General of India in Toronto expressed deep sorrow over the loss, confirming the identity and circumstances of Randhawa’s death. The investigating team described the student as an “innocent victim” and noted that a homicide investigation is ongoing in a post shared on social media.
The consulate stated that it is in close touch with Randhawa’s family and is providing all necessary support during this difficult time.
Continuing the investigation, the Hamilton Police have urged residents and commuters in the area to come forward with any dashcam or security camera footage from between 7:15 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. on the day of the incident. They also appealed to the public to help identify those responsible for the shooting.

Illegally stored gas cylinders seized
Thane (PTI): Authorities have seized illegally stored 1,839 gas cylinders and seven vehicles worth over Rs 67 lakh in the Dombivli MIDC area of Thane district, officials said on Saturday.
A special vigilance team of the Mumbai Rationing Department detected an illegal storage of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders in Phase-2 of Dombivli (East).
Cylinders belonging to multiple gas agencies were found stockpiled in closed vehicles, unauthorised warehouses, and open sheds without mandatory permissions from the Explosives Department, Fire Department, or oil companies, according to an official release.
