Yousuf Deedat, leading Muslim scholar and activist, passed away at St Anne’s hospital at 14:40 pm this afternoon, Friday 17th January in South Africa. Deedat was fatally wounded on Wednesday when he was shot by an unknown gunman in Verulam. He was airlifted to hospital where his condition was critical.

The family of Deedat in a press release conveyed their heartfelt gratitude for the support they received from family, friends and the community during Deedat's treatment at the hospital.

"The body will lie at 14 Meyrick Avenue, Glenwood from 10pm tonight, Friday 17 January and will leave 14 Meyrick Avenue at 3:30am tomorrow morning, Saturday 18th January. The funeral prayer will be held at the Verulam Wick Street Mosque after the morning prayer, Fajr Salaah, at 4:20am. This will be followed by the prayer and burial at the Verulam cemetery," the press release from the family stated about the arrangement of funeral rites of Deedat.

Kolkata (PTI): Marco Jansen struck a stunning 55 not out in a rearguard action to help South Africa reach 169 for 8 against New Zealand in the first semifinal of the T20 World Cup here on Wednesday.

Jansen struck two fours and five sixes in his 30-ball unbeaten knock to resurrect South Africa innings after they were reduced to 77 from 5 in the 11th over.

Dewald Brevis chipped in 34 while Tristan Stubbs contributed 29.

Rachin Ravindra, Cole McConchie and Matt Henry took two wickets apiece for New Zealand.
