Kingston (AP): Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness secured a third term early Thursday following a tight race on an island shaken by corruption, inequity and economic concerns.
Preliminary results showed that Holness' Jamaica Labor Party won at least 34 seats, while Mark Golding's opposition People's National Party secured at least 29 seats.
Golding conceded the election in a brief speech, saying he was disappointed in the outcome as he acknowledged the success of his opponent.

Udupi: A case has been registered at the Udupi City Police Station after an unknown person impersonating a Lokayukta official attempted to cheat a senior official of the Udupi City Municipal Council.
According to the complaint, First Division Revenue Inspector of Udupi City Municipality, Kapildev S. Godemane, received a WhatsApp call on January 19 from an unidentified individual who introduced himself as Cheluvaraj, a Lokayukta Police Inspector from the Mangaluru division.
The caller claimed that a complaint had been received against Kapildev via email and warned him to “settle the matter.” He allegedly threatened that failure to comply would result in the registration of a criminal case and initiation of departmental inquiry.
Subsequently, the caller handed over the call to another person, who claimed to be a senior officer and reiterated the threat, asking Kapildev to act as instructed or face legal consequences.
Suspecting foul play, Kapildev visited the Udupi Lokayukta office to verify the authenticity of the calls. Officials there confirmed that no such officers were working in their office and that the calls had not originated from the Lokayukta department.
Realising that the calls were made with an intent to cheat and intimidate, Kapildev lodged a formal complaint at the Udupi City Police Station. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to trace the impersonators.
