New Delhi (PTI): Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai was on Wednesday sworn in as the 52nd Chief Justice of India.
He was administered oath by President Droupadi Murmu at a brief ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
He succeeds Justice Sanjiv Khanna, who demitted office on Tuesday on attaining the age of 65 years.
Justice Gavai, who was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court on May 24, 2019, will have a tenure of over six months and would demit office on November 23.
Justice Gavai took the oath of affirmation in Hindi.

Kasaragod: UDF candidate A.K.M. Ashraf has won the Manjeshwar Assembly seat in Kerala and is set to return to the Assembly.
He led from the start of counting and kept increasing his margin, finally winning by 31,193 votes.
Ashraf got 96,367 votes, while BJP’s K. Surendran got 65,174 votes. LDF candidate K.R. Jayanand finished third with 20,365 votes.
In the last election, Ashraf had won by just 745 votes against Surendran, but this time he significantly increased his lead.
