Nepal President Paudel is to be flown to AIIMS, Delhi for medical treatment
Kathmandu (PTI): Nepal President Ramchandra Paudel will be airlifted to India on Wednesday for treatment after he was admitted to a hospital here for the second time within a month after he complained of shortness of breath, his press aide said.
Paudel, 78, was admitted to TU Teaching Hospital here on Tuesday.
President Paudel will undergo treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, (AIIMS), New Delhi, the aide was quoted as saying by the Kathmandu Post newspaper.
Kiran Pokharel, the press adviser to the President, told the Post, that the President will be medevacked to India in an air ambulance at 9:30 am.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Purna Bahadur Khadka, among other leaders, visited him to inquire about his health condition.
Last week, the President complained of pain in his stomach.
A Cabinet meeting on Tuesday decided to deploy a team of government officials, led by the health secretary, to facilitate his treatment. The team will assess the nature of the President's illness and report to the government, a minister said.
Further decisions on the President's treatment will be taken after the team submits its report.
Paudel of the Nepali Congress was elected as the new president of Nepal last month, in a relief to the fragile coalition government headed by Prime Minister Prachanda'.
Paudel, a common candidate of the eight-party alliance that included the Nepali Congress and Prime Minister 'Prachanda'-led CPN (Maoist Center), received the vote of 214 lawmakers of Parliament and 352 provincial assembly members.

Fire at Delhi HC judge’s residence uncovers hidden cash, SC collegium orders immediate transfer
New Delhi: A fire at the residence of Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma led to the discovery of a large stash of cash, leading to action from the Supreme Court collegium. The collegium has decided to transfer Justice Varma to the Allahabad High Court with immediate effect, with some members suggesting resignation or an in-house inquiry.
According to a Times of India report, the fire broke out at Justice Varma’s bungalow while he was away. His family contacted emergency services, and after the flames were extinguished, responders found piles of cash inside one of the rooms. The authorities reported the discovery to the police, and the matter soon reached the office of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna.
Following the revelation, the CJI convened a collegium meeting to discuss the situation. After deliberations, the collegium decided on Justice Varma’s immediate transfer to his parent court, the Allahabad High Court. He had been serving in the Delhi High Court since October 2021 after moving from Allahabad.
However, some collegium members raised concerns about the judiciary’s credibility and suggested stronger action. They proposed that Justice Varma be asked to resign or face an in-house inquiry. As per the procedure laid down by the Supreme Court in 1999, an in-house inquiry would require CJI Khanna to seek Justice Varma’s response. If found unsatisfactory, a panel of senior judges would be constituted for further investigation.
