Washington: A 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck in the Pacific off the coast of Chile on Sunday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.
"There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage," the USGS said of the quake, which it earlier reported as a magnitude 7.2, and which occurred 41 miles (66 kilometers) west-southwest of Constitucion, Chile.
"Overall, the population in this region resides in structures that are resistant to earthquake shaking, though vulnerable structures exist," it said.

Magadi: A 27-year-old two-wheeler rider died after his bike was hit by a car driven by R. Shashank, son of Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee chairman H. M. Revanna. The accident took place at Gudemaranahalli in Magadi taluk on Thursday night.
The victim has been identified as Rajesh, a resident of Belagumba village. He was employed at a private company in Bengaluru and was returning home around 10 pm when the incident occurred. While Rajesh was riding towards his village, the car coming from Magadi towards Bengaluru, in which Shashank was travelling, collided with his bike. The impact threw Rajesh onto the road, killing him on the spot.
Kudur Police visited the location soon after the accident and have taken up further investigation.
