Three Muslim doctors practicing in UK have reportedly died after contracting the deadly Corona Virus while performing their duties and helping those affected by COVID-19 in the UK.

The three doctors have been identified as Dr Habib Zaidi (76), Dr Adil El Tayar (63) and Dr Amged El-Hawrani (55). All the three doctors were performing their duties as part of the NHS.

British MP Zarah Sultana expressed her condolences to the families of the deceased doctors through a tweet from her official twitter handle and also thanked other doctors and NHS staff for their courage and self sacrifice.

“Three NHS doctors have sadly passed away after contracting COVID-19.  My heart goes out to the loved ones of Dr Amged El-Hawrani, Dr Adil El-Tayar and Dr Habib Zaidi. And to all our frontline NHS staff: thank you for your courage & self-sacrifice” Zarah tweeted.

Dr Habib Zaidi

A “well-respected and loved GP”, Dr Habib Zaidi died in intensive care at Southend Hospital in Essex after showing “textbook symptoms” and starting treatment for a suspected coronavirus infection. He was the first doctor in the UK to die after contracting the virus.

“For that to be the thing that took him is too much to bear. It is reflective of his sacrifice. He had a vocational attitude to service.”

“He left a gaping hole in our hearts, but a loss that is also felt within the community that he devoted almost his entire life to.”  His daughter commented on his passing away.

Dr Amged El-Hawrani

Dr Adil El Tayar became the first working NHS surgeon to die from COVID-19 in the UK. After graduating in 1992 from the University of Khartoum, Sudan, he moved to the UK in 1996 to continue his studies. Dr El Tayar worked as an organ transplant surgeon at St George’s Hospital, Tooting, before moving to Saudi Arabia in 2007, working for three years in Jeddah. In 2011, Dr El Tayar moved back to his native Sudan to help establish a transplant program and worked at the Ibn Sina Hospital, Khartoum. He passed away at West Middlesex University Hospital in Isleworth, West London.

Dr Amged El-Hawrani

Dr Amged El-Hawrani was a frontline ENT (ear, nose, and throat) consultant at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton. He became one of the first senior medics to die from coronavirus.

Mumbai, May 6: The Bombay High Court on Monday granted interim bail for two months on medical grounds to Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal, who has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case.

A single bench of Justice N J Jamadar said Goyal shall pay a surety of Rs 1 lakh and not leave Mumbai without prior permission from the trial court.

"The applicant (Goyal) shall be released on interim bail for a period of two months. He shall abide by all conditions imposed," the bench said.

The high court also directed Goyal to surrender his passport.

Goyal (75) had sought the interim bail on medical and humanitarian grounds as both he and his wife Anita Goyal are suffering from cancer.

A special court in February refused bail to Goyal but permitted him to be admitted in a private hospital of his choice and seek medical treatment.

Goyal then moved the HC, seeking bail on merits and to be released on interim bail on medical grounds.

Goyal's counsel Harish Salve had urged the court to consider the case on humanitarian grounds.

However, ED's counsel Hiten Venegaonkar opposed the bail and said the agency did not have any problem if Goyal's hospitalisation was extended.

Venegaonkar had submitted that the court may extend Goyal's hospitalisation for a period of four weeks and then call for a fresh medical report to assess his situation.

But Salve said that apart from deteriorating physical health, Goyal's mental health was also not good.

Goyal was arrested by the ED in September 2023 on allegations that he had laundered money and siphoned off loans to the tune of Rs 538.62 crore given to Jet Airways by the Canara Bank.

His wife was arrested in November 2023 when the ED submitted its chargesheet in the case.

She was granted bail by the special court the same day considering her age and medical condition.
