Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's mortal remains, wrapped in the tricolour, were taken to the BJP headquarters here on Friday for the people to pay their last respects to the departed leader.

As if to indicate the path of extremism the current Hindutva politics is taking, from that of liberal nationalism, veteran politician and statesman, RSS ideologue former PM Atal Bihari Vajapayee breathed his last on Thursday. It had been more than a decade since Vajpayee moved away from active politics and public life. As a mark of liberal politics he stood for, Vajpayee spent almost his last few years in the ICU. But the most troubling fact is, all the contemporaries that had joined hands with him during his heydays, weren’t facing any better time in the party either.  

The Delhi Police have made elaborate security arrangements for the last rites procession of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away on Thursday.

Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said that in order to take up relief works and give compensation in the rain-hit districts including Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Hassan, Chikmagaluru, Shivamogga and Uttara Kannada, the government would release Rs 200 crore immediately.

Due to heavy rains that has been lashing the district for the last few days, streams and rivers were in spate creating flood situation in many parts of the district. Repeated landslides in various villages have left the people in panic and appealing for help.

Former minister Ramanath Rai said that when he was the forest minister in the previous Congress government, he had written to the government demanding rejection of Dr Kasturirangan report.

Following the closure of Shiradi and Madikeri Ghat roads due to landslides, the Mangaluru KSRTC division would run Volvo bus service to  Bengaluru via SK Border and Kudremukh during day time.

Tamil Nadu will remember former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as a very humble person who touched the feet of a woman from a village near Madurai.
