In order to remind just how important sleep is and to celebrate it, Gulf Medical University celebrated World Sleep Day with great enthusiasm on March 17, 2023, which was organized by the College of Health sciences and Thumbay University Hospital’s Department of the Pulmonology and Department of Neurology. The annual event organised by World Sleep Day Committee of World Sleep Society (founded by WASM and WSF), seeks to bring forth important issues related to sleep, and this year’s event was market with the slogan ‘Sleep is essential for health’ that aimed to raise awareness about getting adequate and quality sleep for maintaining good health and well-being in the overall community.

Gulf Medical's University and Thumbay Research Institute of Precision Medicine marked the Research Day, sharing insights from leading minds on the region’s first pilot research on personalized precision medicine programme using the Zebrafish Avatars to treat cancer- with the first phase focusing on the care of patients suffering from colorectal and breast cancer. The study’s findings aim to help researchers and oncology healthcare providers to design more tailored and effective treatments based on genetic screening, data on tumor progression and subsequently assessing the need and efficacy of chemotherapy versus other advanced surgical alternatives. In this way, the research further intends to reduce the trial-and-error response in oncology medicine combined with the preservation of organ function and, improve the overall quality of life.

Popularly known as Gulf Medical University Sports Festival brings together more than 2,000 students from 25 universities across the seven emirates. Now in its 21st edition, the week-long festival scaled new heights with more competitors than ever before.

Kuwait: In celebration of Kuwait National Day, the Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association (KKMA) orchestrated a noble beach cleanup program on 25th February. The mission was to clean up the beach area from 2nd Ring Road to Kuwait Tower, and collected all forms of waste from the beach side. With an impressive turnout, hundreds of dedicated volunteers from KKMA, alongside enthusiastic children, families, and gracious Kuwaiti volunteers, all united for the noble cause.
