Mangaluru, August 24: The city police have arrested a person on charges of attempting for third marriage here on Friday.

The accused is identified as Ashok L Suvarna (40) of Jeppinamogaru Karambettu in the city. Earlier, he had married twice. When those marriages were continued for long time, he has decided to marry third time. So, he did not reveal about his previous marriages while trying to get marry for the third time.

For the third marriage, Kumuda and Veena, sisters of the accused, had spoken to the mother of bride at Mulki. Believing their words, the family members of the bride agreed for the marriage.

But the family members of Ashok were in a hurry for engagement and marriage. They have finished the engagement on August 24 and fixed the time for marriage on August 26. This urgency has created suspicion and the family members of the bride suspected their moves. When they collected information about Ashok, they came to know about him and his two marriages. Both the wives were not with him now. Following this, the family members of the bride lodged a complaint at Kankanady police who arrested the accused. The police also booked cases against Kumuda and Veena for helping their brother to get marry for the third time hiding the truth. The police are searching for Kumuda and Veena who are at large.

New Delhi (PTI): President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday paid homage to the bravehearts who lost their lives in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack and said India remained firmly committed to defeating terrorism in all its forms.

Ten Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists from Pakistan arrived by sea on November 26, 2008, and killed 166 people, including 18 security personnel, during a 60-hour siege in Mumbai.

"On the anniversary of the cowardly terror attacks in Mumbai on 26th November, 2008, I join the entire nation in paying homage to the bravehearts who lost their lives and expressing solidarity with their families," Murmu said in a post on X.

"A grateful nation salutes its valiant security personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our people. It is also the day to reiterate that India remains firmly committed to defeating terrorism in all its forms," the president added.
