Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr. KV Rajendra on Sunday extended the prohibitory orders to close all shops in the district after 6 pm for another two days (i.e: till August 3).

One person has been arrested in connection with the murder of a youth from minority community in Surathkal here, police said on Sunday.

City Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar on Saturday said 21 people have been detained in connection with the Faazil murder case adding that the affiliation of detained men to any organization was not important.

In the background heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in the Dakshina Kannada, education institutions including Anganvadis, primary schools, and high schools in Mangaluru, Bantwal, Moodabidri, Ullal, and Mulki Taluks have announced a holiday on July 30, Saturday. 

Prohibitory orders have been clamped in the city following back-to-back murders of two people belonging to different communities in the last couple of days.

Mohammed Faazil who was assaulted by unidentified car-borne assailants on Thursday evening in Surathkal succumbed to his injuries while being treated at a hospital here.

In an incident reported on Thursday evening a youngster was assaulted by unidentified miscreants by lethal weapons here in Surathkal.

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC) K V Rajendra has directed the closure of all the bars and liquor shops in Bantwal, Puttur, Kadaba and Sullia taluk limits till Friday midnight.
