Udupi police took underworld fugitive don Bannanje Raja who was brought to his native place Sasithota in Kalmadi to see his sick mother, on Tuesday with tight police security.
Five persons died and 12 others including children sustained severe injuries when a lorry collided the jeep in which they were travelling at Nayabazar near Uppala on National Highway 66 in the taluk on Monday. All the 12 injured were admitted to a private hospital and on Tuesday, a child succumbed to the injuries.

Last rites of former higher education minister Bajpe Abdul Khader Mohidin (B.A Mohidin) was held at Bajpe Eidgah Juma masjid on Tuesday, July 10 with all government respect.
Bajpe Abdul Khadar Mohidin (BA Mohidin) born in a most economically backward family in Pejawar, a village near Bajpe on June 5, 1938. He grew up as an ordinary man and became famous through his hard work.
