Mysuru, October 08: The local Congress leaders have decided to boycott the world famous Dasara celebrations this time.

Speaking to Varthabharati, City Congress president R. Murthy said that Dasara should be celebrated by taking all into confidence. But this time, it has become the Darbar of Ministers G.T. Deve Gowda and S.R. Mahesh. It is customary that normally, Dasara would be celebrated after taking noted personalities of the city, workers of various parties and various organizations into confidence. But this time, everything is being held as per the direction of those two ministers, he said.

The Dasara festival would have 16 sub-committees and each committee would have workers of various parties and general public. Workers have contributed for the party and it was their duty to honour their efforts during such occasions. But till date, no Congress worker is appointed to any sub-committees. They would bring this to the notice of the party leaders and they would appeal them not to participate in the celebrations, he said.

“There is the coalition government in the state. Since the beginning of Dasara, the Congress workers are being neglected. Minister Puttaranga Shetty expressed his displeasure in the Dasara Committee meeting that Congress workers and leaders are being neglected. Apart from this, MLA Tanveer Sait also expressed his displeasure. In spite of it, Ministers Deve Gowda and S.R. Mahesh have been taking decisions unilaterally”, Murthy said.

Both G.T. Deve Gowda and S.R. Mahesh had worked as the party workers. They were aware of the workers desires and pains. Even then, they have not appointed single worker to any committee which surprised him. In the Dasara high power committee meeting, the Chief Minister had said that sub-committees would be constituted shortly. But so far, both the ministers have neglected the issue, he said.

“We don’t oppose Dasara celebrations as it is the festival of the land. Everyone should enjoy. But we have appealed the party leaders and workers not to participate in the celebration, because, the party leaders and workers are being neglected Purposefully. It is insult to us if we go to the place where we do not have respect”.

Alappuzha, (Kerala) (PTI): Four doctors in Kerala have been booked for allegedly failing to detect genetic disorders in a newborn while it was still in the mother's womb, the police said on Thursday.

The accused include two female doctors attached to the Kadappuram Government Women and Child Hospital in Alappuzha, along with two doctors from private diagnostic labs, according to the Alappuzha South police.

The police registered an FIR on Tuesday based on a complaint lodged by Anish and Surumi, a couple from Alappuzha.

They alleged that the doctors failed to detect or disclose the genetic abnormalities during prenatal scans, instead assuring them that the reports were normal.

The couple also claimed that they were shown the baby only four days after delivery, according to the complaint.

The FIR stated that Surumi, 35, was undergoing treatment for her third pregnancy at Kadappuram Women and Child Hospital.

On October 30, Surumi was admitted for delivery. However, she was referred to Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) in Vandanam, Alappuzha, citing the absence of fetal movement and heartbeat, the FIR said.

On November 8, the baby was delivered following surgery at MCH and was found to have severe internal and external deformities, the FIR stated.

Meanwhile, one of the accused doctors, responding to the allegations, said she had treated Surumi only during the initial months of her pregnancy.

"I provided care for three months at the beginning of her pregnancy. The reports shown to me indicated issues with the fetus's growth," she said.

The doctors associated with the diagnostic labs, however, maintained that there were no errors in the scan reports.

The police registered a case invoking Sections 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 125 (b) (where grievous hurt is caused, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine which may extend to ten thousand rupees, or with both) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused.
