Shivamogga: A case of domestic violence has emerged from Hosanagara taluk, where a woman was allegedly assaulted by her husband and mother-in-law for not giving birth to a male child. The victim, identified as Suneetha, a resident of Arasalu village near Ripponpet town, has filed a police complaint detailing the physical and mental abuse she endured at the hands of her in-laws.

According to the complaint, Suneetha’s husband, Kiran D’Souza, and his mother, Surin D’Souza, attacked her on Saturday evening while they were returning home after attending prayers at a church in Arasalu. The assault, she alleged, was the culmination of continuous harassment she had faced for not bearing a son. She further stated that her sister-in-law, Nirmala, also played a role in instigating the abuse.

Suneetha told the police that her husband, influenced by his mother and sister, had been mentally torturing her over the fact that they had a daughter but not a son. She accused them of physically assaulting her multiple times and even attempting to kill her. Following the attack, she sustained injuries and was initially admitted to the Ripponpet Government Hospital before being shifted to McGann Hospital in Shivamogga for further treatment.

The Ripponpet Police have registered a case against Kiran D’Souza, Surin D’Souza, and Nirmala under relevant sections of the law. Kiran D’Souza is currently absconding, and police teams have launched a search operation to apprehend him.
