Kalaburagi, August 24: Opposition Leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop pretending for the death of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, Kharge said that “how many times did Modi meet Vajpayee when the latter was alive? Modi, who did not turn up towards Vajpayee when the latter was alive, is now pretending after the death of the leader. Modi, who did not even respond when former deputy prime minister LK Advani who taught him ‘Rajadharma’, wished him, is now pretending after Vajpayee’s death. Vajpayee’s death shocked us. But we will not politicize his death. But we will not sit idle just watching Modi’s pretentions. Though he was strong follower of RSS and BJP, Vajpayee had lived with endurance with all communities. He believed in democratic system”, he said.

Had the central government given Rs 2,000 crore assistance to Kerala, taking assistance from other countries would not have happened. The central government should give financial assistance to Kodagu on the lines of Kerala, he demanded.

Flights would fly from Kalaburagi airport from August 26 on experimental basis, for which all preparations were completed. But the Indian Aviation Authority has to give permission for this experimental flying, he said.

Washington DC: The White House has reportedly ruled out the use of nuclear weapons against Iran, even as uncertainty continues over ongoing peace negotiations and a deadline set by US President Donald Trump approaches.

Issues bout a possible escalation had increased after US Vice President JD Vance said that the United States has “tools in our toolkit that we so far haven’t decided to use” in dealing with Iran.

His remarks came amid rising tensions and ahead of a deadline linked to peace efforts.

The situation has attracted attention as Trump warned Iran that its “whole civilization will die tonight tonight” if an agreement is not reached by Tuesday at 8 pm.

This statement led to speculation about the possibility of extreme military measures, including a nuclear strike.

Following Vance’s comments, the White House issued a clarification distancing itself from such interpretations. In a post on X, it said, "Literally nothing @VP said here 'implies' this, you absolute buffoons." In a later statement, it added that “only the president knows” what action will be taken regarding Iran.
