Rescue and relief works are on in full swing in flood ravaged districts of Karnataka, with a let up in the rains and water receding in most of the affected areas, officials said here on Monday.

Bengaluru: Nine more people have died in rain related incidents in Karnataka, taking the toll to 40 as the flood situation remained grim in the state.

 Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Sunday said the preliminary estimate of flood related loss in the state was Rs 10,000 crore even as he urged the Centre to release Rs 3,000 crore as immediate aid.

Bengaluru: Adding insult to injury, people managing a crematorium in flood-ravaged Kodagu district allegedly demanded Rs 8,000 from a family for the cremation of their two daughters killed in a landslip on Saturday.

Four more people have died in rain-related incidents in Karnataka, taking the toll to 31 on Sunday as the flood situation remained grim in the state.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government Saturday declared 80 Taluks in 17 districts flood-affected even as the death toll went up to 26 and thousands of people were rendered homeless.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Saturday sought Rs 3,000-crore aid from the central government for relief works in the state's 14 flood-hit districts in the northwest and coastal regions, battered by heavy monsoon rains and strong surface winds since August 1.

Bengaluru: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Saturday that insurance firms would be directed to pay compensation to farmers who suffered losses in the floods in Karnataka.
