Chennai, June 12: The CBI on Tuesday moved the Madras High Court, challenging the discharge of former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran and his elder brother and Sun TV group Head Kalanithi Maran and others in the illegal telephone exchange case.

The court, admitting the criminal revision petition, issued notice to the Maran brothers and other accused.

A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court, on March 14 discharged the Maran brothers and others from what is called the illegal telephone exchange case.

The CBI had alleged a loss of Rs 1.78 crore to the government due to the installation of alleged an illegal telephone exchange at Dayanidhi Maran's house which was used for Sun TV operations.

The others who were discharged were BSNL's former Chief General Manager K.Brahmanathan and former Deputy General Manager M.Velusamy, the former minister's Personal Secretary V. Gowthaman, and Sun TV network employees S.Kannan and K.S. Ravi.

Surapura: In a tragic road accident reported from the taluk, six people were burnt alive in a collision between a private bus and a car on the Bidar-Bengaluru Highway near the Shanthapura Cross close to the Thinthani Bridge on Friday morning.

A fire broke out due to the force of the collision, and both vehicles were gutted in the flames.

The bus is learned to have been traveling from Lingasugur to Kalaburagi, and the car was going towards Lingasugur. While none of the passengers in the bus was reportedly endangered in the accident, all six people traveling the car died in the accident and are learned to have burnt in the fire.

The local fire brigade has successfully doused the flames.

Inspector Umesh M and team of the Surapura Police Station is learned to have arrived at the accident spot and conducted an inspection.

The skulls of four people are said to have been found among the debris.
