Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka visit landslide-hit spot in Wayanad
Wayanad(Kerala) (PTI): Congress leader and former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited the landslide-affected area of Chooralmala here on Thursday afternoon.
After reaching the spot amidst the rain, Gandhi and his sister left for the Community Health Centre in Meppadi, party sources said.
From there, the two will then proceed to Dr Moopen's Medical College and two relief camps at Meppadi, they said.
AICC general secretary and Alappuzha MP K C Venugopal is also accompanying them.
Gandhi, who won from the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in the 2019 general elections, had again won from here this year.
However, as he also won from the Raebareli LS seat in Uttar Pradesh, he gave up the Wayanad constituency from where Priyanka is expected to contest when a by-election is held there.
Gandhi and Vadra landed at Kannur airport at 9.30 am and then travelled to Wayanad by road.
Massive landslides triggered by torrential rains hit Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha hamlets in the early hours of Tuesday, killing 173 people, including women and children, so far.

Drug bust by Mangaluru CCB Police: Kerala man with narcotics worth â‚ą73 lakh held near Mulki
Mangaluru: In an effort to make Mangaluru ‘drug-free,’ the CCB Police arrested a man, Shameer PK, near Mulki and seized 738 grams of hydro ganja worth â‚ą73 lakh, which he was transporting in his car.
The police said on Friday that Shameer is a resident of Kandalad village in the Kozhikode district of Kerala. They have also confiscated his mobile phone as well as the car he was using to transport the narcotics, with the total value of the confiscated items estimated to be more than â‚ą80 lakh.
The officers stated that Shameer was transporting the narcotics from Goa to be supplied to various places, including Mangaluru and Kerala. The CCB Police intercepted his car near Bappanadu on the outskirts of Mulki town, and upon checking the vehicle, found 738 grams of hydro ganja.
An FIR has been filed at the Mulki Police Station, and further investigation is underway. The CCB Police have stated that a preliminary probe revealed the narcotics were supplied from abroad.
The CCB investigation team was led by ACP Manoj Kumar Nayak and included Inspector Shyamsunder HM, Sub-inspector Sharanappa Bhandari, and other police personnel.
