New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday clarified that it has not directed the removal of all stray dogs from public streets and that its earlier order was limited to removing dogs from institutional areas such as hospitals and similar premises.
According to a report published by News18, a bench of the Supreme Court of India comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta and N V Anjaria resumed hearings on petitions related to the stray dog issue, which highlight risks posed by stray animals and alleged failures of civic authorities in controlling them.

The court underlined that its focus was on strict compliance with the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules and reiterated that it had only directed the removal of dogs from institutional areas.
During the hearing, the judges raised concerns about safety in sensitive areas and questioned how many stray dogs could be allowed to roam near hospital wards and areas where patients are present.
The clarification came a day after the top court expressed serious concern over the rising number of dog bite incidents across the country.
“We are conscious that these things are happening. Children and adults are getting bitten, people are dying," the bench said.
The court also noted that in the past 20 days, two judges had met with accidents caused by stray animals on highways, adding that one of them is in serious condition.

Kyiv (AP): Russia attacked Ukraine with drones and missiles, killing three and injuring at least 16 in the capital overnight into Friday, Ukrainian authorities said.
Russia also struck critical infrastructure in the western city of Lviv using an unidentified ballistic missile, said Mayor Andriy Sadoviy. The Western Command of Ukraine's Air Force later said the missile travelled at a speed of 13,000 kilometres per hour, and that the specific type of rocket was being investigated.
Several districts in Kyiv were hit in the attack, said Kyiv City Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko. In the Desnyanskyi district, a drone crashed onto the roof of a multi-storey building. At another address in the same district, the first two floors of a residential building were damaged as a result of the attack.
In Dnipro district, parts of a drone damaged a multi-storey building and a fire broke out.
Running water and electricity were disrupted in parts of the capital as a result of the attack, Kyiv's Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
The attack took place just hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy alerted the nation about Russia's intentions for a large-scale offensive. He said that Russia aimed to take advantage of the frigid weather in the capital, making roads and streets perilously icy.
