Rajnath Singh leaves for Jammu and Kashmir to inaugurate 'smart' border fence
New Delhi, Sep 17 : Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday left for Jammu and Kashmir to inaugurate two pilot projects of "smart" border fencing built under the Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) programme.
The two projects, each covering a 5.5 km-border stretch along the International Border in Jammu, are set to get a first-of-a-kind high-tech surveillance system that will create an invisible electronic barrier on land, water and even in air and underground, helping the Border Security Force (BSF) detect and foil infiltration bids in the most difficult terrains.
CIBMS involves deployment of a range of state-of-the-art surveillance technologies -- thermal imagers, infra-red and laser-based intruder alarms that form an invisible land fence, aerostats for aerial surveillance, unattended ground sensors that can help detect intrusion bids through tunnels, radars, sonar systems to secure riverine borders, fibre-optic sensors and a command and control system that shall receive data from all surveillance device in real time.
The programme is a more robust border management system which is seamlessly integrating modern technology with human resource, a Home Ministry official said.
"Based on integrated border management system, this virtual fence would be first of its kind initiative in India," said the official.
The officer said the CIBMS is designed to guard stretches where physical surveillance is not possible either due to inhospitable terrain or riverine borders.

BJP candidate K Sudhakar booked as flying squad seizes Rs 4.8 cr cash
Yelahanka: The Election Commission's flying squad seized a substantial sum of Rs 4.8 crore in cash from a residence in Yelahanka, located within the Chikkaballapura Lok Sabha constituency. This action was accompanied by the booking of BJP candidate K Sudhakar for an alleged violation of the model code of conduct.
According to reports, the raid conducted at the residence of Govindappa resulted in the confiscation of multiple bundles of Rs 500 notes. Subsequently, after questioning Govindappa, the BJP candidate was booked in the matter. This incident lead to the arrival of Income Tax officials at the scene, with ongoing investigations underway.
The Election Commission has confiscated items totaling Rs 50 crore, comprising cash, liquor, narcotics drugs, and other gift articles. The elections in Karnataka are being conducted in two phases, with the first phase commencing on April 26 and the second phase on May 7, encompassing a total of 28 constituencies.
The Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka has confirmed the seizure of cash and the filing of an FIR against the BJP candidate, citing violations under various sections of the Representation of the People Act and the Indian Penal Code related to bribery and undue influence on electors.
