New Delhi, Oct 1: The Delhi Police said on Thursday that a man faked his own kidnapping in order to extort money from his parents.

He will be produced before a court for recording his statement under Section 164 of the CrPC, the police said.

The matter came to light when Tej Pal Singh, a resident of Bijnor in UP, informed police that his son Sushant Chawdhary was missing.

On September 24, the complainant with his younger son had gone to Sushant's office and he came to know that his son had not come to office since September 8, they said.

Singh received a text message from Sushant's phone saying that he had taken a loan of Rs 1,50,000 and had returned Rs 75,000.

The message said if the remaining amount was not returned, then Sushant would be in big trouble, the police said.

The police raided Gandhi Maidan, Chandni Chowk and other areas and traced Sushant.

During interrogation, Sushant revealed that he had staged his own kidnapping as he needed some funds to repay his loans.

Sushant told the police that he had been regularly investing money in an online trading site. He had taken loans to invest in this site but suffered huge losses, the police said.

He hatched a plan to demand money from his parents and staged his own kidnapping, the police said.

Chennai: Actor-politician Vijay has reportedly not been invited to take oath as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after failing to demonstrate support from the required number of MLAs, sources in Raj Bhavan said.

According to media reports that quoted sources in the office of R.N. Ravi Arlekar, Vijay could not prove the backing of 118 legislators, the majority mark in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly.

Despite last-minute efforts to secure support from the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazagam (AMMK), and an IUML legislator, Vijay reportedly managed support from only 116 MLAs, falling short by two members.

Sources said Vijay failed to submit letters of support from the VCK and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).

Later, the IUML issued a statement clarifying that it was not part of the TVK-led alliance.

Meanwhile, AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran is also said to have informed the Governor that his party would support the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) instead.

Earlier in the evening, Vijay had met Governor Arlekar and staked claim to form the government, stating that he enjoyed the support of 118 MLAs.
