Lucknow (UP): Two farmers protesting against the three farm laws introduced by the Centre died after being run over by a car reportedly driven by the son of Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Ajay Mishra.

The accused has been identified as Ashish Mishra. The incident led to a huge outcry by the protesting farmers, police stated.

The farmers were protesting the Centre's three farm bills ahead of an event in Ajay Mishra's paternal village in Lakhimpur Kheri's Tikunia, where UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya was to be the chief guest. They had planned to show black flags to the deputy chief minister.

The farmers also demonstrated in front of Ashish Mishra's car when he was going to receive Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya. It has been alleged, that the Union minister's son then ran his car over the protesting farmers. The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) claimed that not two, but three farmers lost their lives in the incident.

Subsequently, the angry farmers burned down three cars, including Ashish Mishra's. As per the latest reports, the farmers have continued to protest and the situation has turned tense in Tikunia.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed Assistant Director General Prashant Kumar to reach Lakhimpur Kheri and bring the situation under control.

Chennai: Actor-politician Vijay has reportedly not been invited to take oath as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after failing to demonstrate support from the required number of MLAs, sources in Raj Bhavan said.

According to media reports that quoted sources in the office of R.N. Ravi Arlekar, Vijay could not prove the backing of 118 legislators, the majority mark in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly.

Despite last-minute efforts to secure support from the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazagam (AMMK), and an IUML legislator, Vijay reportedly managed support from only 116 MLAs, falling short by two members.

Sources said Vijay failed to submit letters of support from the VCK and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).

Later, the IUML issued a statement clarifying that it was not part of the TVK-led alliance.

Meanwhile, AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran is also said to have informed the Governor that his party would support the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) instead.

Earlier in the evening, Vijay had met Governor Arlekar and staked claim to form the government, stating that he enjoyed the support of 118 MLAs.
