Bidar: Tensions flared in Khudavantpur village of Bhalki taluk after an alleged attack on Dalits by upper-caste youngsters during Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

According to reports, a procession was organised in the village on Tuesday to mark Ambedkar Jayanti. During the event, while participants were dancing near Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s statue, an upper-caste youth named Vikas allegedly threw a stone at the gathering. Police intervened immediately and managed to defuse the situation.

However, on Wednesday morning, in what appears to be a continuation of the earlier incident, a group of around ten upper-caste youngsters, including individuals identified as Akash and Datta, allegedly assaulted a Dalit man named Dattatreya. The attackers reportedly used casteist slurs before launching a brutal physical attack.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at the Mehkar police station. Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing.
