A head constable of Haryana police was arrested and another is being looked for for allegedly swindling Rs 3.23 crore in e-challans in Palwal, police said on Thursday.

Tear gas was used at Bishnupur by the local police on demonstrators - some of whom wanted him to proceed to Churanchandpur, while others opposed his visit.

The victims' families belong to Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh and have migrated here to work as labourers at a construction site near an unused chemical factory at Chandrapura village in Halol taluka, said the police.

While the local army unit tweeted that "unconfirmed reports" indicated some casualties in the incident, official sources said one body had been recovered from the area and a few others could be seen lying on the ground.

The man killed his wife by setting her ablaze inside their car in the early hours of June 24 while returning from Shegaon, a temple town in neighbouring Buldhana district, he said.

"Relevant sections of the IT Act and Indian Penal Code are being invoked as the evidence comes on record," the DCP added.
