India like a train headed to disaster by incompetent driver: Rahul Gandhi

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that after four years of his rule, India looked "like a train being driven to disaster by an autocratic, incompetent and arrogant driver".


Three elephants killed by train

Three elephants were killed after being hit by a train in an area bordering Jharkhand and West Bengal on Tuesday, a railway official said.

The elephants were crossing the rail tracks near Gindhi station in West Bengal when they were hit by Gyaneshwari Express, killing them on the spot, the official said.

Bombay HC rejects Abu Salem's plea for parole to marry

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday rejected jailed gangster Abu Salem's plea for a 45-day parole to get married to his Thane-based girlfriend.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice V.K. Tahilramani and Justice M.S. Sonak declined the request on the ground that under the prison rules, those convicted under terror charges were not eligible either for furlough or parole.

Army major, 3 soldiers killed in Kashmir border fight

An Indian Army Major and three soldiers were killed in a gun battle that also left two militants dead on Tuesday when an incursion bid from Pakistan was foiled on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, a defence official said.

Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said a group of militants tried to infiltrate to this side of the LoC in Bandipora's Gurez sector, some 180 km north of Srinagar.

The incident took place around 28 nautical miles from the shore on the high seas around 4 a.m., Kerala Fisheries Minister J. Mercykutty said.
