Mob lynching: Rajnath Singh for social media checks, opposition walks out

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for the first time admitted in the Lok Sabha on Thursday that fake news on social media has resulted in many mob lynching incidents in the country, saying the government has asked service providers to put a check on rumour mongering on social media. Not satisfied with his response, the opposition walked out.

14 killed as bus falls into gorge in Uttarakhand

 Fourteen persons were killed and 17 injured when a state-run bus fell into a deep gorge in Tehri in Uttarakhand on Thursday, police said.

The disaster occurred on the Rishikesh-Gangotri highway when the driver of the bus belonging to Uttarakhand State Transport Corp lost control over it near Sulyadhar.

Priest from Punjab arrested in Delhi after rape complaint

Punjab Police arrested a priest and self-styled healer from the Delhi international airport following a complaint from a woman in Zirakpur that he had raped her, said an official on Thursday.

Zirakpur station house officer (SHO) Pawan Kumar said the priest, Bajinder Singh, was nabbed from the Delhi airport as he was about to board a flight for London where he was scheduled to attend a healing event on July 21.

No coercive steps against Umar Khalid till Friday, HC tells JNU

The Delhi High Court on Thursday restrained the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) from taking any coercive steps against the student-activist Umar Khalid till Friday.
