Dalit man beaten to death in Chhattisgarh over suspected rice theft

A Dalit man, Panchram Sarthi, was beaten to death by three individuals in Raigarh district on December 24, 2024, under suspicion of attempting to steal rice. The accused, Virendra Sidar, along with his neighbours Ajay and Ashok Pradhan, allegedly tied Sarthi to a tree and assaulted him with bamboo sticks, kicking and punching him. The incident occurred at around 2 a.m., and the police were informed by the village sarpanch at 6 a.m.
