Mangaluru: Bearys Engineering, Architecture and Health Sciences institute celebrated the 75th Republic Day on Friday with great enthusiasm, with the program culminating in a beach-cleaning program at Ullal and around 300 students from various institutions participating in it, contributing to the vision of a clean and green beach.
The grand celebration commenced with the hoisting of the national flag, echoing the patriotic fervor that marked the 75th year of India attaining the status of a Republic.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Dr. Manjaiah DH, Senior Professor and Director of PG Studies and Research in Computer Science at the Mangalore University, who inspired the gathering with his insightful words on the importance of education and research in shaping the future of the nation.
Following the Republic Day festivities, the institution organized a beach-cleaning program at Ullal Beach, underlining its commitment to environmental sustainability. The students, armed with gloves and trash bags, enthusiastically worked together to remove polythene waste and other debris from the shores.
The beach-cleaning initiative was not only an effort to maintain cleanliness but also aimed at raising awareness about the importance of preserving our natural resources. The students actively engaged themselves in discussions on the adverse effects of pollution on marine life and the environment.

Srinagar (PTI): Property worth Rs 1 crore belonging to a notorious drug peddler was on Saturday attached in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar, police said.
A double-storey house on eight marlas of land situated at Wantpora Eidgah, belonging to Basit Bilal Dar, a notorious drug peddler, valued at approximately Rs 1 crore, a police spokesperson said.
He said Dar is involved in two cases registered under various sections of the NDPS Act.
During investigation, it was established that the accused had acquired the said property through illicit proceeds generated from drug trafficking activities, the spokesperson said.
Consequently, the property was attached under the provisions of the NDPS Act. The attachment proceedings were conducted in the presence of the two independent witnesses, strictly in accordance with the prescribed legal procedures, he said.
As per the attachment order, the owner has been restrained from selling, leasing, transferring, altering, or creating any third-party interest in the property till further orders, the spokesperson added.
