Chikkamagaluru: Four persons of a family killed and one seriously injured when the new car they were travelling in plunged into a trench near Hirebailu in Kalasa Hobli limits in the district today.
Two women and two men of a family were killed in the incident, and the deceased have been identified as Vishwanath (55), Pushpavati (48), Rahul Rai (58), and Mamata (51); all were residents of Bantwal in Dakshina Kannada district.
One Sanjeev Shetty was seriously injured in the accident, and he has been admitted to a government hospital in Kalasa. It has been learnt that the members of this family were relatives of Kalasa resident and businessman Ravi Rai.
The locals had organized a Yakshagana program at Balehole village near Kalasa on Monday. The artists of this Yakshagana were said to be members of the deceased family. To watch this programme, the victims were heading from Bantwal via Charmadi Ghat by a new Wagon-R car.
The man on wheels lost control over the car at a curve near Hirebail. Subsequently, the vehicle plunged into a 50-meter deep trench.
The Kalasa police rushed to the spot and took out the bodies with the help of the locals.
A case regarding this has been registered at Kalasa police station.

Bengaluru: The last date to avail the 50% concession on fines for all unpaid traffic e-challans issued before 2020 comes to an end tomorrow
The Karnataka government announced the rebate after a gap of two months on November 20, and it was available for a limited period between November 21 and December 12.
Earlier, the government had offered a similar 50% discount on pending traffic fines between August 23 and September 12.

As per the order, vehicle owners with pending traffic challans can clear their dues by paying only half of the total fine amount during the concession period.
