Suratkal: The Suratkal Police have arrested one individual and brought another on a body warrant in connection with a case involving the circulation of communal hate messages and false accusations on WhatsApp.

The arrested person has been identified as Ram Prasad alias Pocha (42), a resident of K.K. Shetty Compound in Kulai village. According to police, he was taken into custody following a complaint filed at the Suratkal Police Station.

The second accused, Lokesh, a resident of Kodikere in Suratkal, is currently lodged in Udupi District Jail in connection with another case registered under the Padubidri Police Station. He has been presented before the court by the Suratkal police after obtaining a body warrant.

As per the complaint by Rajesh Honnakatte, the accused allegedly circulated a message on WhatsApp accusing him of converting over 20 young women, selling obscene CDs, and currently attempting to convert women working at his office. The message also falsely claimed that a 24-year-old Hindu woman was being prepared to marry Rajesh’s brother, and that she had stopped applying vermillion and had started attending prayers at a church.

Following this, Rajesh filed a complaint at the Suratkal Police Station, stating that the circulated messages were intended to incite communal hatred and defame him with baseless claims.

Police have taken action and registered a case, stating that further investigation is underway.

Belthangady (PTI): In connection with the Dharmasthala mass burial case, officers of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) brought the key witness and complainant to the Netravati riverbank in Dharmasthala under tight police security for a spot inspection on Sunday afternoon.

The inspection began around 1 PM at the bathing ghat area near the river, where the complainant identified the alleged burial site. A heavy security blanket was deployed across the area, and officers from multiple departments were stationed at the location.

Senior officers including Jitendra Kumar Dayama and C.A. Simon led the inspection, coordinating the on-site proceedings.

As news of the inspection spread, several local residents gathered near the bathing ghat, curious to witness the development. However, the SIT officers escorted the witness deep into the forest area nearby, where he is said to have pointed out the exact spots where multiple bodies were allegedly buried.

Sources indicate that the inspection could go on for several more hours.
