Five days police custody to Surendra Bhandari
Assault and murder attempt on BJP workers
Bantwala, June 22: Bantwala court on Friday handed over Surendra Bhandari accused in the assault and murder attempt to BJP workers, to police custody for five days.
However, two other accused Sathish Kulal (37) and Prithviraj Shetty (35) were handed over to the judicial custody. In a joint operation, Bantwala and Mangaluru DCIB police arrested Surendra and Sathish at Pachchinadka in Mangaluru. On charges of helping the accused to abscond after the incident, Pruthviraj J Shetty was also arrested at Kumble. All the three were produced before the court on Thursday night. Now, following the police request, the court handed over Surendra to five days police custody for interrogation.

Soldier found hanging in Jammu camp, investigation underway
Jammu (PTI): A soldier posted in an army dog unit was found dead inside a military camp here on Sunday, officials said.
The soldier was found hanging with a rope from the ceiling of his room in the family quarters area of the camp at Nagrota in the early hours of the day, they said.
The body of the deceased was shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Preliminary reports suggest it to be a case of suicide but the exact cause of death will be ascertained after the completion of the investigation, the officials said.
They said the army has initiated a departmental inquiry, while police have also started inquest proceedings to probe the circumstances leading to his death.
