Kundapur: The Kundapur additional JMFC Court has remanded a staff member of the District Armed Reserve police, who was in the judicial custody over the murder case of two youths of Chikkanakere village in Kota Manuru.

Udupi DySP Jaishankar, who is also the investigation officer of the case, had appealed the court to send accused Pavan Ameen (31) to police custody. Subsequently, Justice Shreekant has remanded the accused to the police custody till February 22. 

Other accused in the case, Chandrashekhar Reddy and Sujay, are already in the police custody.

Bail application rejected

The court has rejected the bail plea of accused police constables Pavan Ameen, Veerendra Acharya, and student Pranav Rao.

One more accused held

The police have arrested one Mohammed Touseef (28), a resident of Brahammavara, in connection with the twin murder case. Touseef had allegedly helped in providing a hideout to the prime accused.

Belagavi (Suvarna Vidhana Soudha): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced that the state government will implement reservation quotas to encourage sportspersons, including 3% in the Forest Department, 3% in the Police Department, and 2% across various other departments.

Responding to a question raised by Congress MLC Ivan D’Souza during the Question Hour in the Legislative Council on Thursday, the Chief Minister said the state has already appointed 13 athletes who won medals in the Olympics, Paralympics, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. In the Police Department, direct appointments have been made for 70 constables and 14 Police Sub-Inspectors, he stated.

Siddaramaiah said that the new reservation measures, 3% in the Forest Department, 3% in the Police Department and 2% in other departments, are aimed at further encouraging sportspersons. He added that the government will also study possibilities for providing greater support to the sport of Kabaddi.
