Mangaluru: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar participated in the Dasara celebrations organized at Shri Gokarnanatha Temple in Kudroli in the city on Wednesday night.

President of the Temple Trust Jayaraj H Somasundaram welcomed Shivakumar by garlanding him.

The Deputy CM, said that he had visited the temple with the blessings of Goddess Sharada. It is my good fortune that I am visiting the holy place established by Narayana Guru. I am also delighted to have participated in the Mangaluru Dasara celebrations this year,” he added.

Shivakumar, who stepped into the temple at an auspicious hour meant for ‘Devara Bali’ festivities, participated in the conventional chariot procession of the gods by offering a coconut prior to the chariot procession.

He offered tribute to Narayana Guru, who established the Gokarna Temple. He also went around the premises of the temple and paid respect to various gods whose idols are established in the temple. The priests offered prasada to the DCM and also honoured him on behalf of the temple.

Members of the temple administration board were present on the occasion.

Surapura: In a tragic road accident reported from the taluk, six people were burnt alive in a collision between a private bus and a car on the Bidar-Bengaluru Highway near the Shanthapura Cross close to the Thinthani Bridge on Friday morning.

A fire broke out due to the force of the collision, and both vehicles were gutted in the flames.

The bus is learned to have been traveling from Lingasugur to Kalaburagi, and the car was going towards Lingasugur. While none of the passengers in the bus was reportedly endangered in the accident, all six people traveling the car died in the accident and are learned to have burnt in the fire.

The local fire brigade has successfully doused the flames.

Inspector Umesh M and team of the Surapura Police Station is learned to have arrived at the accident spot and conducted an inspection.

The skulls of four people are said to have been found among the debris.
