Belthangady, May 31: One killed in an accidental firing from a country-made gun at Devagiri of Neriya village in the taluk on Wednesday late night.

The deceased is identified as James (48) of Devagiri. He was working as the supervisor of Baiju Estate of Neriya village. It is said that he had been to the estate with the gun on Wednesday night. When he did not return home even after morning, family members searched him in the estate and his body was found on the bank of a stream near Ambate hills of the village. Country-made gun was also found beside his body. It is said that James might have slipped and fell down while going on the bank of the stream. At this time, the double barrel gun fired killing James on the spot.

Dharmasthala police rushed to the spot and enquired. Based on the complaint lodged by Jibin, son of the deceased, the police have registered a case. The police have recovered the gun which belonged to James brother Binoy, it said.

Earlier, the US embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital, was also attacked. Authorities reported damage to the premises, but no casualties were recorded.
