Mangaluru: A large number of people gathered for a protest rally organised by the Ulama Coordination Karnataka against the Waqf Amendment Act at Shah Garden Maidan in Adyar, Kannur, on Friday.
Despite the scorching heat, people began arriving from various places towards Adyar-Kannur from 2 PM onwards.
Meanwhile, shops in various parts of the city were closed since noon. As it was Good Friday, vehicular movement in the city remained minimal during the afternoon. Police personnel were deployed at important junctions and crossings in the city and surrounding areas of Adyar. In addition to vehicle patrols, police vehicles were stationed at several points.
Its worth noting that a disciplined system was established at the protest site by volunteers, who were seen regularly clearing empty drinking water bottles to maintain cleanliness.
According to reports, those gathered at the site raised slogans of Azadi and expressed their dissatisfaction with the Waqf Amendment Act.
A tight police presence was maintained around the ground, and volunteers assisted in managing the smooth flow of traffic.
Meanwhile, the organisers also appealed for a peaceful protest and requested participants to refrain from shouting inflammatory slogans.
