Udupi, July 16: The life story of Udupi SP Laxman Nimbargi who wrote UPSC exam in Kannada medium and became IPS officer, has inspired the students of Kannada medium school students here on Monday.
While inaugurating Road Safety and Traffic awareness programme organized by the Rotary at Nittur high school, Nimbargi, who hails from a village in Vijayapura district and studied in Kannada medium school, explained his personal experiences in facing the challenges in his life. “Born in a village in Vijayapura district, I have studied my primary and high school education in Savadatti. Later, I have completed my PU education in Kannada medium. Though I faced inferiority complex about language while studying PUC in Hubballi, I faced it. In the first semester, I had got zero marks. But I took the second semester as a challenge and studied hard. I used to study four hours daily”, he said.
“On first PU result day, I went to college and searched for my name in the notice board. But my name was not there. Some of my friends came and told me that my name was published among top ten names in a separate notice board. In the second PU, I became the topper in the college and my photo was published in newspaper”, he said.
“I have got 85 per cent in Engineering in Hubballi. Later, I decided to write UPSC exam. But one of my professor advised me to go to foreign and build a career instead of making the life a burden. But I believed that only IPS or IAS officer could wipe out the tears of people. So, I left for New Delhi for preparations of UPSC exams. I made two futile attempts and thus spent three years. As a result, my relatives and friends kept me away. While thinking about this, I thought of writing exam in Kannada medium which is my mother tongue. Without any help from others, I wrote UPSC exam in Kannada medium and got 104 rank in 2014 batch and started my career as IPS office in Karnataka”, he explained before the students.
‘I was like you’
“Before 30 years, I was like one among you. I used to walk for three km to go to Kannada school and learnt. Kannada language would teach us on how to live. Children from Kannada medium would understand everything and experience it. Nothing is impossible. My life is an example for that”.
- Lakshman Nimbargi, Udupi SP

Bengaluru, Nov 1: ISRO on Friday said its analogue space mission has taken off at Leh in Ladakh, where it will simulate life in an interplanetary habitat as India prepares to send a human to the moon.
The initiative is a collaborative effort of the Human Spaceflight Centre, ISRO, AAKA Space Studio, University of Ladakh, IIT Bombay, and supported by Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council.
The month-long mission, kicked off mid-October, comes in the wake of India's plans to set up lunar habitats, which could provide a base to launch inter-planetary missions.
The geographical features of Ladakh are considered to closely resemble Martian and lunar landscapes and are an ideal training ground for scientific missions aimed at exploring planets "India's first analog space mission kicks off in Leh...this mission will simulate life in an interplanetary habitat to tackle the challenges of a base station beyond Earth," ISRO said in a post on X.
The team of AAKA Space Studio is testing environment suits and conducting geological studies in Leh's low-oxygen environment, simulating space-like conditions, studies that could be crucial for future space missions.
The team is also studying how the human body adapts to the harsh weather conditions in Ladakh that could be useful in understanding how astronauts could get used to space like conditions.
