Uttara Kannada gets Rs. 40 lakhs to 'modernize' Madrasas
Karwar: Department of Minority Welfare, Directorate of Minorities, Government of Karnataka has released a one-time grant of Rs. 8.12 crores for modernization of Madrasas in the state.
Under the Modernization of Madrasa scheme, in order to provide modern education in Madrasas, the Government has released the funds.
In a notification dated 8 February on the official website of Department of Minority Welfare and Directorate of Minorities, the one-time grant of 8.12 crores has been divided and given to 92 Madrasas across the state.
The notifications states “Under Modernization of Madrasa Scheme to provide a Modern, Formal and Computer Education in Madrasas, the Government of Karnataka has released a one-time grant of Rs. 8.12 crores (Batch 4) to the 92 Madrasas”.
Four Madrasas in the Uttara Kannada District, have secured the grants of Rs. 10 lakhs each, and a collective grant of Rs. 40 Lakhs.

Two districts have secured grants of more than 1 crore rupees, (Dakhsin Kannada 3.96 crores and Vijayapura 1.12 crores) for 40 and 14 Madrasas of the districts respectively.
Other than the two districts, no other district has secured the grant worth more than fifty lakh rupees.
According to the notification, this is the highest sum released among the four batches of the schemes. In the first batch of grant Rs. Twenty Two Crores Twenty Lakhs Rupees, the second batch released grant of Seventy Six Lakh Rupees, while the third batch had released Five Crores Fifty Six Lakhs Rupees under the Modernization of Madrasa Scheme.
After 8.12 crores’ grant in the fourth batch, the government has released Sixteen Crores Seventy Six Lakhs Rupees in the scheme.

Iran declares 40 days of public mourning after Khamenei’s killing: Reports
Tehran: Iran has reportedly declared 40 days of public mourning following the killing of the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Al Jazeera reported citing Iranian state media.
According to the report, Fars News Agency said the Iranian government has announced 40 days of nationwide mourning in the wake of Khamenei’s killing. The agency also reported that seven days of public holidays have been declared.
