Vitla: Two manual workers, aged 40 years and 24 years, died of asphyxiation while working on placing the rings inside a 30-foot well sunk at Padibagilu of Kepu village on Tuesday.
The deceased workers were identified as Ibrahim, also known as Ibbu (40), a native of Kukkila currently residing at Parthippadi, and Ali (24) from Malar.
Ibrahim had been involved in the work of setting the rings of a well for the last 20 years. The two workers had planned that one of them would set the rings inside the well and also clean the well later, with work commencing on Tuesday.

When the worker who descended into the well did not emerge after a considerable amount of time, the second worker became suspicious and entered the well to check on him. Unfortunately, both Ibrahim and Ali reportedly succumbed to asphyxiation on the spot, lacking oxygen at a depth of 30 feet.
The locals retrieved the bodies of the workers from the well and shifted them to the mortuary of the Vitla Community Hospital.
