Chitradurga: Deputy CM G. Parameshwara stated that every year, a minimum of 3,000 police personnel retire from service and at present, there are 23,000 posts vacant in the department. Steps will be taken to fill them up in a phased manner.

Speaking at the passing out parade of the civil police at Aimangala police training center in Hiriyur taluk, Chitradurga district, here on Wednesday, he said that in the last five years, steps were taken to fill 20,000 posts in the department.

Urging the police personnel to maintain a friendly relationship with the public, the deputy chief minister said: “since the police work under a lot of pressure, it is obvious that sometimes they lose patience, but officers must keep themselves physically and mentally fit to ensure that they perform their duties with utmost dedication.”

Mumbai: Nana Patole has stepped down as the President of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, days after the party faced a severe defeat in the state assembly elections.

The party’s poor performance in the elections had raised concerns about its leadership and strategy in the state.

The Congress, which contested 101 seats as part of the MVA, posted its worst-ever defeat by managing to win only 16 seats.
