Bengaluru, October 21: Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G. Parameshwar said that everyone should be careful about those who spread hatred among people in the name of religion.
Speaking at a programme on Imam Hussain Day organized by the KPCC general secretary Aga Sultan at Shia Khabaristan near Johnson Market in the city on Sunday, he said that it was the duty of the every individual to ensure peace and harmony in the society.
Around 1400 years ago, Imam Hussain had sacrificed his life in Karbala for truth and rights. Now, everyone should stand up for truth and rights under the guidance of his ideals. The world has been growing so fast. But unfortunately, enmity was also growing in the same pace among people. Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ, Mahatma Gandhi had advocated Peace, Brotherhood, Non-violence to the society. But today, people have forgotten them, Parameshwar said.
“The Constitution has given equal rights to all citizens. But in the name of caste and religion, enmity is spreading in the society. Besides following our own religion, we should respect other religions. Then only we can establish peace in the society”, he said.
Kalki Dhama founder Acharya Pramod Krishnan said that Imam Hussain was not limited to any one caste or religion. If he was restricted to one particular boundary, he would have been limited to Karbala. But today, he was being remembered across the world. Islam was known for its Peace, Love and Devotion. It was not the religion which advocates violence. Those who advocate violence cannot become the followers of Islam. In order to protect the unity and sovereignty, everyone should forget their disbeliefs and respect all irrespective of Castes, Creeds and Religions, he said.
Maulana Dr. Kalbe Rushaid Rizvi presided over the programme in which, Aga Sultan, Bengaluru Archbishop Rev. Peter Machado, Sunitha Jingaram Sharma of Hussaini Brahmin community, Former Minister Roshan Baig, MLA N.A. Haris, ISRO Scientist Mahendra Paul Singh, Actor Javed Jafri, Channel Win Director Imran Rasool and others were present.

Kolkata (PTI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday described the Waqf (Amendment) Bill as “anti-secular”, claiming that it would snatch the rights of Muslims.
Banerjee, speaking in the assembly, also said the Centre did not consult with states over the matter.
“The bill is anti-federal and anti-secular; it is a deliberate attempt to malign a particular section. It will snatch the rights of Muslims... The Centre did not consult with us on the Waqf Bill,” she said.
The chief minister added that “if any religion was attacked”, she would wholeheartedly condemn it.
Opposition parties have stridently criticised the amendments proposed by the bill in the existing Waqf Act, alleging that they violate the religious rights of Muslims.
The ruling BJP has asserted that the amendments will bring transparency in the functioning of the Waqf boards and make them accountable.
A parliamentary committee has been constituted to scrutinise the contentious bill.
