Bengaluru: A 23-year-old man was burnt alive in a tragic late-night accident after an overloaded truck lost control and rammed into a parked car in Kurubarahalli in the early hours of Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Ambadass, a native of Kalaburagi, who was resting inside his CNG car while waiting for his next cab booking. The incident occurred around 1:30 am.
The truck, carrying a load of iron, was travelling from Andhra Pradesh to Sunkadakatte. The driver was relying on Google Maps for navigation. While passing through Kurubarahalli, the driver reportedly took a steep downhill road and lost control of the overloaded vehicle.
The truck crashed into the parked car, dragging it for nearly 50 to 100 metres before ramming it into a nearby scrap godown. The impact triggered a massive fire, engulfing both the truck and the car. Fire personnel deployed five to six fire engines to douse the flames.
Ambadass, who was trapped inside the car, died on the spot due to severe burns. He had recently purchased the vehicle on loan and was working as a cab driver.
The truck driver, identified as Sharma, jumped into a nearby stormwater drain, known locally as Rajakaluve, to save himself and sustained minor injuries. He is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital and was later arrested by Rajajinagar traffic police.
Ambadass’s family said they were preparing for his wedding later this year. His mother said, "My son was a graduate but wanted to be a driver. He had just finished one duty and was waiting for another. Around 1 am, the lorry came and hit the car. We cannot even find my son's body. What are we supposed to do?"
Local MLA Gopalayya visited the spot, and further investigation is underway.
