Bengaluru: In a surprise operation late on Saturday night, the Bengaluru Police conducted checks on popular areas of the city including MG Road, Brigade Road, and Church Street, on suspicion of illicit activities.
The operation was conducted based on a tip-off received by the central division police, suggesting that individuals were engaged in illicit activities and acting as drug dealers, reported NDTV. The police detained around 25 African nationals, both men and women, who were reportedly attempting to attract those customers seeking drugs, while standing on the roadside.
The surprise checks were executed under the leadership of Central Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Srinivasa Gowda. The operation involved one Deputy Commissioner of Police, two Assistant Commissioners of Police, six Inspectors, ten Police Sub-Inspectors, and a team of 20 female and 20 male staff members. The detained individuals were subjected to narcotics tests.
Quoting DCP Gowda NDTV wrote, six individuals were detained for confirmed violations of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Additionally, one woman was booked under IPC section 353, which pertains to assault or the use of criminal force to deter a public servant from carrying out their duties.

Gowda further stated, "Among the detained individuals, two were found to have expired visas. A total of 26 individuals were detained, with most of them being held for drug consumption under the NDPS Act. We are currently verifying their backgrounds. They were taken into custody for causing public nuisance and drug consumption. Although we received information suggesting their involvement in pimping activities, no evidence has been found yet. One of the detained individual is Indian, while the rest are African nationals." The Cubbon Park Police Station has filed a case in connection with this operation.

Bengaluru: A life convict lodged in Ballari Central Prison has successfully cleared the second PUC examination.
Ashok Kumar S, who appeared for the examination under prison escort, secured 481 marks out of 600, registering 80.1 percent.
Director General of Police (Prisons and Correctional Services), Alok Kumar (IPS), shared the development on his official ‘X’ handle, commending the inmate’s achievement.
In his post, he stated that it was heartening to see a life convict score over 80 percent in the examination, adding that the inmate had appeared from Ballari Central Prison under escort.

He further noted that the achievement reflected that the “walls of the prison have not subdued his hopes for a better future.”

The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) declared the second PUC results for 2026 on April 9.
A total of 6,32,200 students appeared for the examination across all streams, of whom 5,46,698 passed, recording an overall pass percentage of 86.48 per cent.
