CM BSY announces "Chief Minister's Bala Seva Scheme" for welfare of children orphaned due to COVID
Bengaluru, May 29: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Saturday announced the "Chief Minister's Bala Seva Scheme" for the welfare of children orphaned due to COVID-19, including monthly financial assistance of Rs 3,500 for guardians who are caretakers.
He said the scheme has been prepared on a suggestion from the Centre, for the care of orphaned children.
"Under this scheme Rs 3,500 per month financial assistance will be given to the guardian, who is the caretaker of the child.
Children below 10 years not having guardians will be put under child care institutions," he said.
To provide quality education, children will be admitted to model residential schools like Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Kittur Rani Chennamma Residential Schools and Morarji Desai Residential Schools, he told reporters here.
He said free laptops or tabs will be given to children who have completed 10th standard, to provide them support for higher and vocational education.
For girls who have completed 21 years of age, Rs one lakh will be given for their marriage expenses, higher education and self-employment, he said, adding that for the overall development of the child, mentorship will be provided.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi too on Saturday announced a number of welfare measures for children who lost their parents to COVID-19 from the central government, including ensuring a corpus of Rs 10 lakh when they turn 18 and providing for their education.
Stating that details are being worked out on how much it may cost, the CM said details of the scheme will be announced soon and all those affected will be provided these benefits.
"...How much ever it may cost, we have decided to provide these benefits and are committed to it," he said.
To secure the future of children who lost their parents due to Covid-19, our Govt’s Bala Seva initiative will provide ₹3500 per month to guardians. Children without guardians will be provided free boarding & education in model residential schools. (1/2)

For children who complete SSLC, a laptop will be provided to support their higher education. For female students above 21 yrs of age, a fund of ₹1 Lakh will be granted toward their personal and professional development. (2/2)

Mangaluru: Bajpe police arrests young man for alleged derogatory posts against police
Bajpe: Police have arrested a youth for allegedly posting derogatory and defamatory content against the Bajpe police on social media.
The arrested accused has been identified as Abhishek M. (23), a resident of Katipalla, Surathkal.
According to the police, Abhishek posted a photograph of Bajpe Nisarga Hotel on his Instagram account mr_a_titude_22, alleging that accused persons in a murder case under the jurisdiction of the Bajpe police station were being treated “like royalty” by the police and were being served beef meals from the hotel every day. In his post, he further accused the police of colluding with criminals and misusing their authority, stating that public trust in the police was being betrayed.
Following which, the Bajpe police registered a case and arrested the accused.
Police records reveal that Abhishek is already facing multiple criminal cases. A case of murder, attempt to murder, assault and robbery has been registered against him at the Surathkal police station. At the same time, a robbery case has also been registered at the Kaup police station.
After his arrest, Abhishek was handed over to the custody of the CEN police for further investigation. He was later produced before a court, police said.
