Bengaluru, October 02: Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said that in order to reach the Gandhian ideology to the youth, the government has decided to construct Gandhi Bhavans in all districts in the state.

Inaugurating the ‘Gandhi-150’ jayanti and the golden jubilee celebration of National Service Scheme, organized by the Karnataka Gandhi Memorial Funds, Information and Public Relation department and National Service Scheme at the Gandhi Bhavan here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said that the land was identified in 16 districts for the Gandhi Bhavans and within next 15-20 days, land would be finalized in the remaining districts and a committee was formed under his chairmanship to construct the Gandhi Bhavans.

After constructing the Gandhi Bhavans, programmes would be conducted every day to educate the youth on Gandhian philosophy and employability skills, he said.

Committed to protect women

Gandhi had said that the freedom would get a meaning only when a woman walks alone in the midnight. In order to fulfill his dreams, the Coalition government has decided to take some stringent steps. In order to curb gambling, land mafia and chain snatching and other criminal activities, the police department was given free hand. Stringent action would be taken against those who disturb peace and harmony in the society, he said.

Receiving an award from Jayashri Trust, senior poet Bolwar Mahammad Kunh said that “there are no great personalities in the society to emulate by the youth. So, we have to give the examples of life and works of Gandhi without any choice. It is a tragedy that every individual has inclined towards a particular ideology and organization. As a result, we are prejudiced about the other persons and ideologies. So, it is very difficult to create a peaceful environment in the society”, he said.

Gandhi was killed as he was favouring the Muslims. But the reality was different. Gandhi was not in favour of any particular person, caste or religion. He was in favour of the humanity. But those who killed him had failed to understand the gist of his life, he opined.

Gandhi special editions of Janapada and March of Karnataka were released on the occasion and launched a photo exhibition on Gandhi. Former minister HK Patil, former union minister MV Rajashekaran, Gandhi Bhavan president Vode P Krishna, Gandhian Chennamma Hallikeri, Gandhi Bhavan honorary secretary Indira Krishnappa, Information department director NR Vishukumar and others were present.

No licence for liquor shops

“I have not directed anybody to give licence to liquor shops. Moreover, I have not received any proposal about it. But the media has been making false propaganda against me as ‘two-faced Kumaraswamy’. Media should analyse the past and the future before making any news”.

-HD Kumaraswamy, Chief Minister

Mumbai: Senior politician and constitutional expert Prakash Ambedkar has opined that Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar should invite the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam President Vijay to form the government as his party emerged as the single largest party in the Assembly elections.

Ambedkar, who is a Mumbai-based advocate, activist and also the grandson of Dr. BR Ambedkar, is a former Parliamentarian.

Citing articles from the Constitution and similar incidents in the political history of the nation, Prakash Ambedkar has explained why Vijay cannot be stopped from forming the government in Tamil Nadu, reports Deccan Herald.

“Merely doubt over whether the TVK has the necessary number cannot suffice to withhold the invitation to the party to form the government. The Governor should invite Vijay, President of TVK, the single-largest party, to form the government and assume office as the next Chief Minister. After taking charge, as per the Article 164 (2) of the Constitution, Vijay will have to prove that his government has a majority in the House,” Ambedkar explained.

He also gave examples from India’s political history supporting his argument.

Ambedkar cited the example of the 1989 Lok Sabha elections and said that, although the Congress (I) emerged the single-largest party with 194 seats, Rajiv Gandhi declined the invitation by President R Venkataraman to form the government. “My friend Vishwanath Pratap Singh, leader of the National Front, was then invited and sworn in as Prime Minister on December 2, 1989,” he added.

He then recalled the 1996 elections to the Lower House of the Parliament, when the BJP emerged the single-largest party, but the Parliament was hung as the BJP lacked a majority. “Atal Bihari Vajpayee was invited by President Shankar Dayal Sharma to form the government and was sworn in as Prime Minister. Vajpayee resigned 13 days later on May 28, 1996, after failing to secure majority support in the Lok Sabha,” Ambedkar explained.
