Chamarajnagar: District In-charge Minister K Venkatesh has alleged that the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) is attempting to create problems for Karnataka through its orders that favour Tamil Nadu.
Addressing reporters after his visit to the Male Mahadeshwara Hills in Chamarajnagar district and meeting the residents of the area, Venkatesh, who is the Karnataka Minister for Animal Husbandry, said, "Karnataka has witnessed a monsoon shortfall this year and the water level has reduced in reservoirs in the state. Not just the farmers, but residents of all regions of the state are struggling for water supply. In spite of this, the CWMA has ordered that we let water to Tamil Nadu, which is definitely an act of injustice."
He said that the state government would soon decide on shifting the Changadi village, which is situated near the Male Mahadeshwara Hills. Responding to a question on the people's demand for the Chief Minister's post for a legislator belonging to SC/ST community, Venkatesh said that a decision would be taken on the matter in an appropriate manner and at the right time.
Chamarajanagar Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Nag, Hanur MLA MR Manjunath and District SC/ST Welfare Officer Manjula were present on the occasion.
